The Brunello di Montalcino

The Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine produced in the territory of the town of Montalcino in the province of Siena.

The Brunello di Montalcino is today considered one of the best Italian wines, but till the second half of the 19th century the most known and appreciated wine of this zone it was a sweet white wine, the Moscadello di Montalcino; it was in that period that the people began to study the species of vine called Sangiovese, in this area also called Brunello (bruno means dark) because of the particular colour of the grapes.

In Montalcino, magnificent land kissed by the sun, was thus produced the Brunello, but it remained for many years known and appreciated only in the outskirtses of the production zone, also because its expensive price. But after 1950 the reputation of the Brunello di Montalcino extended in Italy and in the world, and it became the wine we know today, with an intense ruby red colour and a dry and warm taste, that is served with red meat and game.
