Dante's House

Dante Alighieri born in Florence in 1265 and died in Ravenna in 1321. He was a poet, writer and politician; he is considered the first and greater poet of the Italian language. His main work, the Divina Commedia, is the greater poem of the Italian literature and it is considered one of the masterpieces of the world-wide literature. The Museum of Dante's House is in one of the most ancient parts of the historical center of Florence, in Via Santa Margherita. The museum keeps numerous document reproductions about the poet, models and dioramas that show some aspects of his life and the historical events told in the Divina Commedia (as the battle of Montaperti). On a slab of the pavement of the little square in front of the house, there is a curious profile of Dante, whose origins are unknown.
