Val di Merse
The Val di Merse extends in the south-west area of the province of Siena; it is a haven of uncontaminated nature between the Crete Senesi and the Maremma.
The valley cherishes enchanted places, unforgettable for those who want to live the Tuscany and its authenticity. The historical heart of the Val di Merse is Murlo, ancient Etruscan settlement, but it was in the Middle Ages that in the Valley abbeys, churches, fortresses were built; they still survive to the passing of the centuries.
The environment of the Val di Merse is characterised by the forest; in fact, the plenty of wood favourited the development of the valley, and the Museo del Bosco of Orgia(Sovicille), in the middle of a series of walking routes, collects a series of tools used by the woodsmen and the coalmen, remembering us the importance of the forests.
The upper course of the river Merse is included in the Riserva Naturale dell'Alta Merse, a verdant oasis of nature.
