Val di Cecina
The Val di Cecina sprawls along the course of the river Cecina; its uncontaminated territory, with traces of castles, palaces, Romanesque churches and medieval villages, is characterised mostly by hills, it is plain only near the mouth of the river. In Val di Cecina the nature and the welcome of people are conjugated happily to history and art, in a millenium journey that goes from the Etruscans to the Romans, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. About the landscape, there are in Val di Cecina the steep calanchi (ravines), famous with the name of Balze di Volterra, that are near this town; the zone is rich also in geothermal springs, whose extraodinary manifestations are the boric acid fumaroles near the locality of Larderello. In this context there are many paths, that allow to discover this uncontaminated area of Tuscany, of particular suggestion.
