Siena lies in the center of an immense hill’s landscape; it was founded as a roman colony at the time of the Emperor Augustus and it has taken the name of Saena Julia.
Siena was in X century an the important center for trading, it was on the road to Rome and, thanks to that, became an important medieval city. In XII century the city has a communal government of consular type, and it begins to expand his territory and tightens the first alliances. After the plague of 1348, the slow decline of the senese Republic, that had its epilogue in 1555, the year in which the city had to surrender to the supremacy of Florence.
Today Siena is a wonderful citizen where past and present are melted, where it is beautiful to walk along the roads and to look around, discovering evocative panoramas.
