Grosseto is situated in a flat territory, between the valleys of the river Ombrone and little kilometers far from the Tyrrhenian sea.
The city is very attractive because its historical center is completely surrounded by a circle of walls, built during the domination of the Medici family, that has a hexagonal shape, and whose aspect remained the same in the course of events in the centuries. In the city there are numerous and evocative churches, among which the Cathedral dedicated to San Lorenzo, ancient palaces and many museums.
The origins of Grosseto date back to the Middle Ages. The few findings in the city are not enough to demonstrate Etruscan or Roman origin, even if, a little distant from the city, there is the locality of Roselle, famous for the diggings that have brought to light ruins of the Etruscan civilization.
